Saturday Tickets Available for Husker Night at The K

Check Out Huskers’ Night at The K

By Randy York

Nebraska is the annual leader in Kansas City promotions which celebrate University Days to honor five NCAA Division 1 baseball programs that border the Royals.

Nebraska definitively separates itself from four other regional institutions – Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri and Wichita State. The Huskers are the regional kingpin among Midwest fans who follow the Royals across state lines.

Here, however, is a news flash that might convince more Husker fans to see the Royals host the Texas Rangers Saturday night at Kauffman Stadium, so they can increase the nearly 5,000 tickets Nebraska fans already have purchased.

Royals' Coordinator: Gate A Opens Early to Accommodate Husker Fans

“We have plenty of ticket inventory left,” Kendra Zink told me Thursday. “In fact, I just got out of a meeting and learned we’re going to open Gate A early.”

Zink, the Royals’ group sales and special events coordinator, said Gate A will open at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, 45 minutes earlier than normal, to accommodate Husker fans receiving their limited edition Royals' hat.

"The Kansas City Royals are excited to announce the return of Huskers' Night for the 2017 season," Zink said. "Huskers can join fellow Big Red fans for an evening of big league action to watch your Royals take on the Texas Rangers.

"Once again, for 2017, Huskers' Night hats will be distributed only at Gate A," Zink said. "Please arrive early to receive a cap and remember that you must present a Huskers' Night ticket purchased through this link to be eligible to receive a cap."

Alex Gordon a Major Catalyst for Nebraska Fans’ Devotion to the KC Royals

Saturday’s opening pitch is 6:15 p.m. “This is Nebraska’s fifth year in this program and they have led our sales every year,” Zink said. “We sold more than 5,000 tickets the first year in 2013, then 5,893 in 2014 and a record 7,638 tickets to Husker fans in 2015.”

Last year’s Husker Night exceeded 5,000 ticket sales, and this year’s sales are nearly identical.

Zink appreciates the Huskers’ faithfulness to one of their own. “I know Alex Gordon is a huge draw for our franchise,” she said. “Lots of Nebraska fans and families from several states make a weekend out of their drive to KC. They’re very loyal to Alex, his teammates and the coaches.”
