Des Moines, Iowa-- The Nebraska men's tennis team hit the road on Wednesday for the first time since Feb. 18, to play the Drake Bulldogs. Despite a good effort, the Huskers fell 7-0.
In doubles, Toby Boyer and Jon Meyer took on Ben Wood and Calum MacGeoch but were defeated 6-2. Micah Klousia and David Samardzija were also taken down by the Bulldogs 6-3. The doubles point was secured for Drake. Dylan Bednarczyk and Chris Dean played in the No. 1 spot and lost to Bayo Philips and Barnaby Thorold, 6-4.
For singles, Dylan Bednarczyk started in the No. 1 spot but fell to Vinny Gillespie, 6-1, 6-0. David Samardzija battled it out against Ben Wood but fell 6-4, 6-0. Toby Boyer put up a fight in the No. 2 spot against Calum MacGeoch, with close scores, 6-2, 7-6, (7-5). That point secured the Bulldogs win against the Huskers. Chris Dean was in the No. 6 spot for this match and fell 6-3, 7-5. Micah Klousia also had a close match with Barnaby Thorold, playing with a tie breaker. The points were 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (11-9). To close the match, Tomislav Antoljak was defeated by Tom Hands, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. Drake took the match 7-0.
The Huskers return home to play against Big Ten opponent Minnesota, Friday March 24 at 4 p.m. at the Dillon Tennis Center. Admission is free to home matches.
