Palm Coast, FL - The Nebraska men's golf team encountered struggles on Friday during the 2017 Big Ten Match Play Championship. After falling to No. 7 Minnesota in the first round 4-2-0, the Huskers lost in the afternoon to No. 6 Ohio State 6-0-0 and head into Saturday ranked 10th.
Michigan State remains in first place after their match against Iowa, and are scheduled to compete against them again on Saturday.
Competing against Minnesota, Jackson Wendling and Michael Colgate provided the only wins of the day for the Huskers. Wendling defeated Riley Johnson 3&2, while Colgate defeated Thomas Longbella 2UP.
The rest of the team did not fare as well against Minnesota. Tanner Owen lost to Jose Mendez 3&2, Sean Song lost to William Leaf 1UP, Jace Guthmiller lost to Runar Arnorsson 6&5, and Cameron Jones lost to Justin Doeden 1UP.
The Huskers struggled against Ohio State in the second round. Tanner Owen lost to Caleb Ramirez 4&3, Jace Guthmiller lost to Clark Engle 5&4, Michael Colgate lost to Will Grimmer 2&1, and Jackson Wendling lost to Caleb Oreweiler 6&5. Sean Song lost to Daniel Wetterich 4&3, and Justin Jennings lost to Jeg Coughlin III 1UP.
The Huskers will face No. 9 Indiana on Saturday morning in the round-robin bracket.
Saturday's morning session, starting at 8:00 a.m. ET, will feature the championship semifinals and consolation semifinals. Saturday afternoon will conclude with the championship, third-, fifth-, and seventh- place matches.
