Huskers Take Fourth in Shamrock Invitational

Notre Dame, Ind.- The Husker swim and dive team took home a fourth-place win in the Shamrock Invite at the University of Notre Dame, held Jan. 28-29. 

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Big Red came in sixth place with Julia Roller, Allie Worrall, Samantha Hedrick, and Lindsay Helferich in the lane (1:34.66).

After sophomore standout Kaylyn Flatt took home ninth place in the 500 yard freestyle (4:59.13), freshman Tori Beeler had an impressive fourth place finish in the 200-yard individual medley (2:03.14). 

The Huskers took fourth in the 400 yard medley relay with a team of senior captain Erin Oeltjen, Beeler, Dana Posthuma and Allie Worrall (3:41.08). Nebraska also found an eighth-place win in the race with Anna McDonald, Gwen Worlton, Hedrick, and Helferich (3:48.48).

Once again, the Huskers showed strength in the 200-yard medley relay with a third-place finish with Cassandra Brassard, Beeler, Oeltjen, and Worrall (1:42.92).  Carla Gonzalez-Garcia, Worlton, Hedrick, and Roller followed up for eighth place (1:46.00).

McDonald and Beeler took home seventh (4:28.26) and eighth (4.29.34) place finishes in the 400-yard individual medley, respectively. Oeljten followed suit for an eighth place victory in the 100-yard butterfly (56.55).

In the 200-yard freestyle, Flatt placed 15th out of 32 (1:54.20) followed by Roller in 19th (1:55.13) and Worrall at 21st (1:55.55.) 

Beeler finished sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.11) right before Oeltjen took home sixth in the 100-yard backstroke (56.51).

Flatt brought home a fourth-place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle (17.08.84) and Oeltjen found her second eighth-place victory of the day in the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.60).

Hedrick took 15th in the 100-yard freestyle (52.55), and Roller followed right behind for 16th (52.60).

Worlton brought home a seventh-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:20.51) followed by Beeler (2:20.69) and Pacilio (2:21.91).

The Huskers finished the meet strong with a third-place win in the 400-yard freestyle relay with Hedrick, Roller, Oeltjen, and Helferich in the pool (3:24.82).

The Huskers finished with 510.5 total points, landing them in fourth place for their final invite. The Huskers have two weeks to prepare for the Big Ten Championships which will be held in West Lafayette, Ind. Feb. 15-18. The time has yet to be announced.
