Pre-Iowa
Jordan Westerkamp
Senior, Wide Receiver
On the Quarterback situation
“It’s been a tough year for us with injuries, but that’s just kind of how football is. You know no matter whose back there, we will have a great game plan. And we will be ready to go.”
On having experience playing quarterback
“No I do not, I’m open to it though. [Laughs]”
On Tommy Armstrong’s legacy to Westerkamp and to Nebraska
“[He’s] one of the best, if not the best. He’s broken all the records. I’ve been on the back half of those this year. It’s been amazing. He’ll always be remembered here. His legacy will carry on forever, and he’s accomplished so much in his time here. It’s been an unbelievable career for Tommy.”
On Iowa being Nebraska's top Big Ten rival
“I would say so. It’s always a tough game, it’s always the last game of the year. It’s set up pretty well to be a good rivalry. They got us last year at home, and we got them the year before at home. So it’s been good ball games and we are really looking forward to this match up this weekend.”
On what he remembers about playing in Iowa
“[It’s] freezing.”
On wanting to beat Iowa
“It would be huge to keep this team going, keep winning. Seniors set some goals at the beginning of the season and one of them was to be undefeated at home and the other one was to get 10-plus wins. It’s a huge goal for us, and we definitely want to accomplish that.”
On Tommy Armstrong keeping his skills intact off the field
“He still continues to watch film. He lives in the training room, obviously getting better. He does all the things he’s supposed to do. If he’s back he’ll be just as sharp as he was when he was playing.”
On the team this year
“We have been through so much adversity. It’s just been awesome to see us all come together and have the season we are having especially through everything that has happened. It’s been a tough year, but with these senior guys, we are tough. One thing you can say about this class is that we are resilient. We can get through it all.”
On Iowa’s defense
“They’re linebacking corps is very active. It always been the toughest linebacking corps we play. That’s a tough part. The slot receiver position where you have to deal with them throughout the entire game. Super-athletic secondary, obviously Desmond King is coming back, who is a real good cornerback. They’ll be ready to go, pretty disciplined defense. If we do what we are supposed to, we should be OK.”
On the Iowa linebackers
“They just play extremely hard, extremely hard. From the first snap to the end of the game. It’s crazy to go back and watch the film. Those linebackers just fly around.”
On Michigan redecorating the visiting locker room at Iowa
“I did see that, I thought it was hilarious at first. I thought it was away ‘Is Iowa at Michigan?’ We have never done anything like that to that extent. The pink locker room is unique. I don’t believe in any of that stuff, but it is unique.”
On the fan seating at Iowa
“I think it makes the game more fun. Some fan interaction.”
On Black Friday games
“I personally like it. It’s the only show on TV. It’s a big game for us. It’s tough because the week is condensed with everything you are supposed to do. You adjust to the schedule and you get through it. We are really looking forward to playing this Friday.”
