On finishing plays and games
“Our coaches have had it instilled in us since they got here, especially since the end of last year, just to do our best to finish. That’s in drills. That’s in everything that we do, finishing through the line, making sure that you finish in the classroom. When it comes down to finishing out on the field, it’s instinctive and you’re not thinking about it too much. You’re just trusting the things that they’ve taught us, the techniques that they’ve taught us, and that way it can go out and help us to make plays.”
On supporting the offense
“We’re just hoping that they can score. We always want our offense to do well. Anytime that they can eat up some clock and have a really long drive and go down there and score, I think that’s a blessing to us because it lets us get a break. It lets us kind of get together and see what we can figure out what the other offense is trying to do towards us and see how we can stop it.”
On limiting Minnesota's rushing game
“It definitely helps. We’re going to just try to look at Maryland now and see which ways they try to attack us. I think our coaches did a great job game-planning last week, which put us in the right positions to be able to make those plays and to hold them to that amount of rushing yards.”
On keeping composure on and off the field throughout a season
“Like we’ve said before, we just try to take it week by week. That means if you lose a game or you win a game, you’re not looking ahead and you’re not looking behind. You’re looking at what’s right in front of you, and this week that’s Maryland. We try not to get too high or get too low. We just try to stay even-keel. The points on the scoreboard are going to say what they’re supposed to.”
On what Nebraska's current 30-member senior class means to him
“It’s a great group of leaders. Technically I’m a part of this class because I graduated high school in 2013. It’s weird, not necessarily on this team, but I have friends at other schools that are graduating now. These guys are great leaders. It’s a bunch of guys that have had a lot of experience playing, and have had a lot of different life experiences. Just having them be our leaders and the group leading this team is probably one of the key things that have gotten us to the point where we are, with our record.”
