Juniors Card Career Bests in Colorado

Highlands Ranch, Colo. - Juniors Audrey Judd and Emily Gillman both produced the best individual rounds of their collegiate careers to lead the Nebraska women's golf team on the opening day of the Ron Moore Intercollegiate on Friday.

Judd, a junior from Olathe, Kan., scorched the 6,450-yard layout of the Highlands Ranch Golf Club for a three-under-par 69 in the opening round. Judd's round included three birdies and 15 pars. Her previous career-best round was a two-under-par 70 at the UNLV Collegiate Showdown last fall. Judd closed the day in a tie for second on the individual leaderboard, trailing only Colorado State's Katrina Prendergast, who carded a 68.

Gillman, a junior from Austin, Texas, added an even-par 72 for the Huskers, bettering her previous career best of 74 in the second round of the Westbrook Spring Invitational in February of 2014.Gillman notched three birdies on the front nine to overcome a double bogey and a bogey on the back.

With Judd and Gillman leading the way, the Huskers matched their best team round of the season with a 293 to head to Saturday's second round in a tie for fourth in the 18-team field at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate.

Freshman Kate Smith continued her solid play for the Huskers with a one-over-par 73. Like Gillman, Smith's front nine included three birdies, but she also settled for a pair of bogeys on the front and the back.

Senior Sarah Pravecek rounded out the team scoring for the Huskers on Friday with a 79, while freshman Claire Robertson managed an 83 as the fifth player in the NU lineup. Fellow freshman Annie Sritragul added a 78 while playing as an individual outside the Husker lineup at the tournament.

Pepperdine stormed to the lead after the tournament's opening 18 holes with an eight-under-par 280. The hosts from Denver added a one-over-par 289 to sit in second place, while Colorado State produced a four-over-par 292 to sit just ahead of the Huskers in third.
