Pre-Ohio State

De'Mornay Pierson-El
Junior, Wide Receiver/Returner

On being mad after Wisconsin game
“That one was on us. We were right there, and it just fell short.”

On coming away with confidence
“We knew we could play better than that. We’ve been playing well, we just have to put a full game together.”

On chances of coming up big against Ohio State
“It’s another good team, but at the end of the day it’s about us. We have to come and try to put our best game together and put that on film and go out there and try to win every play that we can.”

On the status of Ohio State in Big Ten
“I mean that’s fine. You’re talking about the past right now. We’re planning on right now. We have to go out there and play our best game. Nothing is going to be given. You stated their past history. We’re talking about right now though. As I said, they’re a good team, a bunch of good individuals and everything like that, but we still have to come and play. It’s still a game to be won. It’s still a game to played, so we’re going to be focused on playing now.”

On what he sees in Ohio State’s defense
“Secondary is good. They’re a bunch of athletes. They gel together and move well. Their linebacker corps is a real strong corps that they all work together as a unit. We just have to go out there and make plays.”

On why team has struggled in two-minute situations
“Sometimes that’s just how it goes. There isn’t really anything you can really point out. It’s just something we have to work harder at and just make sure everybody is just in sync with things.”

On how often the team works on two-minute situations in practice
“We did it a few times in practice. Sometimes the look that you get in practice sometimes isn’t always going to be the look you get in games. I mean it’s just actually putting what we get in practice actually onto the field. Sometimes it’s just minor, minor things we have to adjust and fix.”

On how to mentally ‘turn the page’ from Wisconsin game
“Just strap up and give a little bit more. We were right there. We’re doing everything we possibly can, but I mean just add a little bit to it. Study a little bit more, go in practice a little bit harder. We were plays, steps away from it turning around and going in our favor. But I mean it’s a new week, (we) have another opportunity to prove ourselves all over again.”

On what Ohio State’s punter’s style is, rugby style or not
“From what I’ve seen, a little bit, not so much. I’m actually going to go watch film literally after this to go see what he does. I’m not too sure yet, but I know he punts it very well.”

On waiting for big punt return
“It’s a long time coming, but I know it’s coming. Everyone just gels together and gets one big push. Everybody just finishes and everything. One will get taken back.”

On getting a big punt return this week
“I can only do what’s in my control. And my control is to catch the ball, make people miss, and run very fast. So I have to see what their punt unit is about and hopefully I can take one this week.”

On how punt blocking has progressed throughout the year
“I think it’s just execution. I think everybody kind of gets it, Like literally it’s one block away or just that punt could be the punt that he takes back. And I think everybody is kind of getting a lot more excited about it, and they’re actually finishing blocks and everything like that and kind of giving me a little bit more time. Coach (Mike) Riley has harped on just giving me a little time. Coach (Bruce) Read has been practicing about it. So it’s something that we’ve been working for.”

On preferring a specific style of punter over another
“It doesn’t matter. As long as you kick it and give me a chance, it doesn’t matter. You can throw it, toss it, just kick it, it doesn’t matter to me. Anyway it gets back there, to my end, that’s all that matters to me.”

On dealing with rugby-style of punt
“Really the most important thing is just getting to a point where the ball can, you can catch it and get up under it instead of it coming straight at you. You kind of have to rush over to a certain spot. It’s just kind of getting up under it for the most part.”
