Husker Offense Sets Sights on Illinois

Lincoln, Neb.—The Nebraska football team practiced in full pads and helmets for just over two and a half hours Wednesday afternoon. The offense worked inside Memorial Stadium while the defense practiced outside on the Ed and Joyanne Gass practice field.

Offensive Coordinator Danny Langsdorf spoke to the media after practice to discuss the offense's preparation for the first conference home game of the year on Saturday against Illinois. He started off by praising the offensive line for stepping up and filling in for some of the injured starters.

"They have been very good about the next man up mentality. They have done a nice job of preparing," Langsdorf said of the offensive line. "It is rare that you are going to go through a season and not have some bumps and bruises, so you have got to have guys ready to play. As they have gotten into the game, we have not really missed a beat."

Langsdorf went on to speak about what he expects out of senior quarterback Tommy Armstrong, Jr. going into the next stretch of the season.

"Just continuing to be consistent, ultimately making good decisions. For the most part, he has done that. He has cut down the turnovers, which has been a key for us." Langsdorf said. "If we can continue with that, I think that is the No. 1 thing we are looking for, that he is the last guy with the ball in his hands."

Langsdorf also went on to acknowledge the strengths of Illinois' defense under first-year head coach Lovie Smith and talked about how the Huskers need to open the game up with the run.

"Sometimes those speed rushers are really good on you on 3rd-and-long and that is where we really have to get out of that situation and be able to earn some yards on first and second down," Langsdorf said. "We have to do a good job at being able to sustain the blocks and handle them in the run game."

Nebraska will welcome Illinois to Memorial Stadium on Oct. 1st for Homecoming. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. (CT), and the game will air on ESPN2.

Although season tickets are sold out for the 2016 season, fans who want to see the Huskers in person this season at Memorial Stadium can purchase single-game tickets from returning visiting team allotments.
