Page Plays Well Against Team USA

Former Husker Danielle Page scored a team-high 15 points to lead Serbia in a 110-84 loss to Team USA in women's basketball on Wednesday afternoon in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Page, a 6-2 forward from Monument, Colo., who was a four-year letterwinner for the Nebraska women's basketball team from 2005 to 2008, hit 6-of-11 shots from the field including 2-of-3 three-pointers against the Americans. She also hit her lone free throw attempt of the day to complete a traditional three-point play early in the fourth quarter.

Page added two rebounds, one assist, one steal and one blocked shot in less than 22 minutes of playing time against Team USA.

Through three games in the Olympics, Page is averaging 11.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocked shots per game for Serbia. She is shooting 50 percent (15-30) from the field and 33.3 percent (2-6) from three-point range.

As a team, Serbia hit 12-of-20 three-point attempts against Team USA, after knocking down just 9-of-37 long-range tries in its first two games in Olympic play combined.

Although Serbia slipped to 0-3 in Group B pool play, they played Team USA closer than any other team thus far in the Olympics, trailing by just six points midway through the second period and keeping the lead under 20 into the fourth quarter. Team USA opened the tournament with a 65-point win (121-56) over Senegal, before rolling to a 40-point victory (103-63) over Spain on Monday.

Page opened Olympic play with 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field for Serbia in a 65-59 loss to Spain on Sunday. Page added five rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. She managed four points, six rebounds, four blocked shots and two steals for Serbia in a 71-67 setback to Canada on Monday afternoon. The Serbs led by 17 points midway through the third quarter, before Canada rallied to victory.

Page and Serbia will shoot for their first Olympic win on Friday at 10:15 a.m. against China at Youth Arena in Rio. China (1-2) owns a 22-point loss to Canada, a 21-point loss to Spain and a 37-point win over Senegal in Group B pool play.
