Lincoln, Neb. – Thousands of Husker fans enjoyed a chance to meet and get autographs from the 2016 Nebraska football team at Fan Day on Wednesday evening on the field at Memorial Stadium.
In addition to the players, Head Coach Mike Riley, Director of Athletics Shawn Eichorst and the rest of the coaching staff signed autographs and posed for photos during the annual event. A video tribute to Sam Foltz and a moment of silence took place to honor his legacy after his tragic death in a car accident on July 23.
Prior to Fan Day, several Huskers spoke with the media during a pre-Fall Camp press conference, including senior wide receiver Jordan Westerkamp.
“Fan day is awesome,” Westerkamp said. “I remember my first fan day back in 2012, and it is unbelievable how many people came to see us and support us. Husker Nation is unbelievable. I say it all the time. They are the best fans in college football. The people I see on Twitter or social media or even in person, they come up to me. It’s awesome to have a fan base like that.”
Fall Camp opens on Thursday and will conclude before the regular-season home opener on Saturday, Sept. 3 against Fresno State. The matchup between the Huskers and Bulldogs will kick off at 7 p.m. (CT) on the Big Ten Network, and is the first of seven home games at Memorial Stadium this season.
