All three former Huskers competing in the National Pro Fastpitch league faced each other this week, when the Chicago Bandits and Scrap Yard Dawgs split a pair of games in Rosemont, Ill. Former Husker two-time All-America twin sisters Tatum and Taylor Edwards play for the defending league champion Chicago Bandits, while Kiki Stokes, a former two-time All-American at Nebraska, is in her rookie season with the Scrap Yard Dawgs expansion franchise.
This week, the Bandits and Dawgs split a two-game series. Stokes went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base in the Scrap Yard Dawgs’ 9-2 victory on July 13. The next day, Taylor Edwards went 1-for-2 with a run and a hit-by-pitch to lead the Bandits to a 4-1 win. The series finale marked the 30th game this season for both the Bandits (13-17) and the Dawgs (17-13).
Taylor Edwards, the 2014 Division I Catcher of the Year at Nebraska and a 2015 All-NPF selection with the Bandits, was batting .329 with five doubles, two triples, four homers and 14 RBIs following the two-game series with the Scrap Yard Dawgs. As of July 15, Edwards was tied for the lead league in triples, ranked fifth in doubles and 15th in average. Her twin sister Tatum was also tied for fifth in the league with five doubles. Tatum owned a .241 season average following the series against the Scrap Yard Dawgs, and she had also made seven appearances in the circle, including one start, while posting an 0-1 record.
For the Scrap Yard Dawgs, Stokes is enjoying a fine rookie season. After recording three hits in the two games against the Bandits, Stokes was second on her team with a .306 average as of July 15, and she had added five doubles, one triple, four homers and 15 RBIs, while stealing four bases and posting a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. Like the Edwards twins, Stokes was also tied for fifth in the league as of July 15 with her five doubles.
