Nebraska’s Caroline Flynn played a key role in the United States Under-23 Women’s National Team winning the U-23 Women’s Nordic Tournament at St. George’s Park Football Centre on Wednesday, June 8.
The USA tied England in the final game, but claimed the title on goal difference. In their first two games, the Americans defeated Sweden, 3-1, and Norway, 2-1.
Heading into the final match, the USA was on six points to England’s five. England won the penalty kick shootout, 4-2, and both teams finished with seven points in the competition, but the USA had a superior goals difference at plus-3 to plus-1 for England.
Flynn, a midfielder from Lincoln, Neb., led the Huskers in goals last season with five and has 10 for her career. Flynn, a rising senior, scored four goals during the spring 2016 season over the span of five games.
