Huskers Begin Action at Drake Relays

The Nebraska track and field team began its first of three days at the Drake Relays on Thursday in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Huskers competed in just three events in the evening. The men's 4x1600-meter relay (Jacob Olson, Jordan De Spong, Matt Gilbert, Nolan Border) took third place with a time of 16:40.71, just behind Wisconsin and Eastern Michigan.

Running unattached, Anna Peer took third in the women's 10,000 meters with a time of 34:54.56. Austin Post set a personal best on the men's side, 30:32.29, to finish 11th. His time ranks eighth in NU history. 

Other members of the Husker track and field team took part in the Nebraska Wesleyan Spring Open at Woody Greeno Track on Thursday in Lincoln.

Ryan Bates won the 1,500 meters in a personal-best 4:01.48, while Mark Jarecki won the 400 meters (49.58) and Ashleigh Carr claimed the 400-meter hurdles (1:02.38). 

Competing unattached, Kate Birchmier won the discus with a toss of 152-6. Also unattached, Mollie Gribbin was the top collegiate in both the long jump (18-8 1/2) and triple jump (38-7). Reilly Lambrecht won the men's triple jump with a new wind-aided personal-best 49-3, and Mike McCann took the high jump title, clearing 6-6 3/4. 

Competing in their first collegiate outdoor meet, twins Khalil and Carlos Davis moved to sixth and seventh in the Big Ten in the discus. Khalil threw 177-3, while Carlos threw 176-6.
