Stelzmiller Leads Huskers at Big Ten Championships

Cassidy Stelzmiller fired an even-par 72 to lead the Nebraska women's golf team on the second day of the Big Ten Conference Championships at The Fort Golf Resort in Indianapolis.

Stelzmiller, a senior from Placerville, Calif., closed the second round in a tie for 29th individually with a 36-hole total of 146 (74-72) on the par-72, 6,221-yard layout of The Fort. Stelzmiller's solid score helped the Huskers produce a four-player team score of 299 to remain in 13th place at 597.

Haley Thiele provided a strong round of her own with a 73 on Saturday. The freshman from Wahoo, Neb., heads into the final round with a 36-hole score of 148 (75-73). Thiele is tied for 41st.

Senior Cassie Deeg added a second-round 77 for the Huskers to finish the day in a tie for 56th at 151 (74-77). Sophomore Audrey Judd provided the fourth score for the Huskers on Saturday with a 77 of her own. She moved up to 78th individually at 157 (80-77).

Senior Morgan Smejkal (76-78-154) and junior Sarah Pravecek (75-79-154) head into Sunday's final round in a tie for 70th.

Northwestern took over the team lead with a 286 on Saturday to head into the final round at 570. The Wildcats own a tenuous two-stroke lead over Ohio State. The Buckeyes fired the best round of the tournament with a 281 to close Saturday at 572. Michigan is just one shot back of the Buckeyes at 573.

Wisconsin's Brooke Ferrell continued to sit atop the individual leaderboard. After shooting a sizzling seven-under 65 on Friday, Ferrell managed a 72 on Saturday to close the day at 137. Ferrell leads four players who sit in a tie for second at 139.

The final round of the Big Ten Championships begins Sunday with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. (CT). Live scoring will be available from GolfStat.com.
