Senior Dusty Boyer earned Big Ten Men's Tennis Athlete-of-the-Week honors and climbed to No. 80 in the ITA singles rankings.
Boyer, a senior from Ham Lake, Minn., used a strong week on the court to claim the conference weekly award while vaulting 42 spots in the national rankings by beating a pair of top-55 opponents in Big Ten play.
Boyer, who owns a 17-4 singles record including a 6-2 mark in Big Ten play at Nebraska's No. 1 singles position, opened last week with a 6-4, 7-6 (5) victory over Drake's Ben Lott on April 13.
On Friday, the two-time All-Big Ten selection fought to a 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-3 win over Indiana's No. 54 Sam Monette. Boyer completed a perfect week of singles play by posting a 6-4, 6-2 win over Purdue's No. 42 Gergely Madarasz. Boyer's victory also helped the Huskers to a team win over the No. 59 Boilermakers.
In addition to his singles success last week, Boyer paired with his brother Toby to produce three doubles victories at the No. 1 spot for the Huskers, giving Dusty a perfect 6-0 combined record on the week. The Boyer brothers are 17-2 on the season, including 6-2 in Big Ten action.
The Huskers close Big Ten regular-season action this weekend by traveling to East Lansing to face Michigan State on Friday, April 22, at 3 p.m., before facing Michigan in Ann Arbor on Sunday, April 24, at 10 a.m.
