North Brunswick, N.J. – The Nebraska bowling team won its first two best-of-seven Baker format bracket-round matches Friday at the National Collegiate Bowling Championship, and now stand one win away from competing for an NCAA Championship at Brunswick Zone Carolier Bowl in North Brunswick, N.J.
Nebraska moves on in the winner’s bracket and will face the winner of the Arkansas State-McKendree match Saturday at 9:50 a.m (CT).
The Huskers faced Central Missouri in the opening round match and took down the Jennies in seven games, 4-3. After splitting the first four games, Central Missouri pulled ahead with victory in game five, but the Huskers battled back to win the final two games to seal the victory. The Huskers moved to 14-1 against the Jennies this season.
In the final match of the day, Nebraska rolled past North Carolina A&T by a score of 4-0. The Huskers bowled over 200 in three of the four games against the Aggies, who defeated NU in a traditional match during Thursday’s qualifying round.
On the other side of the bracket, Stephen F. Austin went 2-0 in the first two bracket rounds and will face the winner of the Sam Houston State-North Carolina A&T match on Saturday. Vanderbilt and Central Missouri were eliminated from championship contention.
The bracket round continues Saturday morning, with matches beginning at 8 a.m. (CT). Bracket rounds three, four and five (if necessary) will be shown live on NCAA.com. The championship match is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. (CT) on Saturday and will be televised on ESPNU. It will be shown on a tape-delay on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. (CT) on ESPN2.
