McClure Named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week

Nebraska junior pitcher Cassie McClure was honored as the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. The award is the second of the season for McClure, who also earned the first pitcher-of-the-week honor of the 2016 season.

McClure went 1-0 with one save and a 2.21 ERA last week. She contributed to both of Nebraska's wins in a doubleheader sweep of Iowa on Wednesday. In game one, McClure left with a lead in the seventh inning but did not factor into the decision in the Huskers' 6-5 win. She then earned the save in game two with 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.

The right-hander's best performance of the season came in the opening game of Nebraska's three-game series with No. 1 Michigan on Friday. McClure fired a four-hit shutout against the Wolverines to notch Nebraska's third win over a No. 1 team in program history. McClure tossed her first career shutout in conference play against a Michigan team that entered the series with the nation's top scoring offense. McClure also earned the start in the finale with the Wolverines, and she allowed a total of only two earned runs in 11.0 innings against Michigan, which had been averaging 10.8 runs per game in conference play.

On the season, McClure is 14-6 with five saves and a 3.04 ERA. She leads the Big Ten in saves and ranks third in wins and ninth in ERA.
