Lincoln - The Nebraska men's tennis team won the doubles point but surrendered four straight singles matches in a 4-1 loss to No. 13 Northwestern Friday at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center.
Nebraska slipped to 11-8 overall and 2-4 in Big Ten competition.
The Huskers jumped to a 1-0 lead by claiming the doubles points with wins by Dusty and Toby Boyer at No. 1 and a victory by Ford Zitsch and Andrew Dzulynsky at No. 3. The Boyer brothers battled to a 6-4 win over Fedor Beav and Strong Kirchheimer, before Zitsch and Dzulynsky added a 6-4 victory over their own over Alp Horoz and Minir Kumar.
Marc Herrmann and Scott Elsass dropped a 6-4 set at No. 2 doubles to Sam Shropshire and Konrad Zieba, but the Huskers still took an early 1-0 lead in the match.
The Wildcats turned the tide in singles, beginning with Shropshire's 6-3, 6-4 win over Herrmann at the No. 2 position.
Northwestern took a 2-1 lead with Kirchheimer's 6-2, 6-3 win over Toby Boyer at No. 3 singles.
The Wildcats took control with a 7-5, 6-1 victory by Zieba over Nebraska's Dusty Boyer, before Ben Vandixon secured the match for Northwestern with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Zitsch at No. 6.
The Huskers return to the Dillon Tennis Center on Sunday at Noon to take on Illinois.
