LINCOLN, Neb. - Professional squad FC Kansas City topped the Nebraska women's soccer team 4-0 in a spring exhibition at Barbara Hibner Stadium on a warm and windy Sunday afternoon.
FCKC, of the National Women's Soccer League, scored three in the first half and once in the second half, while the Huskers showed resiliency and put together some attacks late in the match.
FCKC got in the board in the 14th minute when Frances Silva finished from about nine yards out on the right side into the left corner.
Caroline Flynn threatened for the Huskers in the 29th minute with a run down the left side, but her shot from 20 yards away went right of the far post. She also recorded the Huskers' only shot on goal in the 77th minute on a shot from distance that was scooped up by FCKC goalie Nicole Barnhart.
FCKC doubled its lead in the 32nd minute after a loose ball in the center of the box wound up on the feet of Shea Groom, who finished into the upper left corner. Amanda Frisbie made it 3-0 in the 37th minute with an impressive run down the left side that resulted in a left-footed shot just inside the near post.
The Huskers kept FCKC at bay for the first 25 minutes of the second half, but in the 71st minute Groom tapped in a loose ball inside the six-yard box into an open net for her second goal of the match and a 4-0 FCKC lead.
Nebraska almost cracked the scoring column in the 80th minute, as Alli Peterson got her head on a Sydney Miramontez corner kick, but her header sailed just over the crossbar.
FCKC had an 8-1 edge in shots on goal.
