Huskers Continue Spring Progression

Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska football team practiced in full pads for just over two hours on Saturday, splitting time between the outdoor practice fields and Memorial Stadium.

Head Coach Mike Riley spoke with the media following practice regarding how he sees the team continuing to make strides through the spring.

"I think we are getting better at some things that we want to focus on and we've got lots of different parts of special teams in pretty well." Riley said. "I really like the vibe of the team. I think that has been a good top level thing for me, that part of it has been really, really good, so I am excited."

Coach Riley also addressed how he sees the offensive and defensive lines continuing to grow and improve.

"The growth and development of that group is really important to the success of this team. We are going to be a solid defensive line...I think we are going to have pretty good depth there." Riley said. "Offensively, I feel pretty good...we still have a long way to go, but I like the look of the group.Those two lines are probably our key issues for the season of how we do."

Coach Riley went on to talk about how the team is trying to overcome the conflict of wanting to practice hard but trying to avoid injury and finding a balance that will lead to success.

"We are practicing pretty fast and physical without trying to go to the ground. I really, really want to get all the good practice that we can and I really want to get out of this thing as healthy as we can be." Riley said. "Blending that is not an easy task, but it is our job. I want to establish some things technically that kids can do and then strategically what we can do in a play and leave it at that."
