Boldt Homers Twice, Huskers Snap Jays? Win Streak

Lincoln – With an 8-2 victory on Tuesday night at Hawks Field behind Ryan Boldt’s first career multi home run game, the Nebraska baseball team (17-7, 3-0 Big Ten) won its seventh straight game over the Creighton Bluejays (16-5, 0-0 Big East) and snapped the Jays’ 10-game winning streak. The Huskers have now won eight straight games and 14 of their last 15.

The Huskers scored seven of their eight runs with two outs, as they were 8-for-15 at the plate with two down, while the Jays were 1-for-9.

Boldt notched his third home run of the season with two down in the second when he belted a three-run shot into the right-center field seats. The preseason All-American then picked his fourth of the season with a leadoff homer in the eighth, hitting it to nearly the exact same spot.

Boldt match a career high with three runs scored, his seventh career three-run game, and recorded his second career four RBI game. He also added a single in the first and has now recorded three hits in each of his last four games.

While Boldt was leading the offense from the top of the lineup, Steven Reveles was also doing damage from the No. 9 hole. The senior shortstop went 3-for-4 on the night with a double, two runs scored and a RBI.

Nebraska jumped out to a 3-0 in the bottom of the second on a two-out rally. After CU starter Connor Miller retired the first two Huskers in the frame, Jake Schleppenbach worked a walked and Reveles singled to put a pair of runners on for the top of the lineup. Boldt jumped on the first pitch he saw and belted it for a three-run home run.

A leadoff walk came back to hurt the Huskers in the third, as Kevin Connolly took his free pass, moved to third on a one-out double by Daniel Woodrow and then scored on a sacrifice fly.

Holding a 3-1 lead, the Huskers put together another three-run fame in the fourth, again with two outs. Reveles started the rally with a single and then consecutive walks loaded the bases for Miller, who was hit-by-pitch to force in a run. Scott Schreiber worked a full count before looping a two-RBI single into right-center field.

Nebraska tacked on a run in the fifth on a two-out RBI double by Reveles and then recorded their only run of the night without two outs in the eighth when Boldt hit the first pitch of the inning from  Austin Stroschein into the right-field seats.

Creighton put one more run on the board in the ninth on their only two-out hit of the evening, but got nothing else off of sophomore Garett King, who picked up his first career save with 4.0 innings of work to end the game.

The Huskers will host their Big Ten home opener this weekend when they open a three-game series against the Illinois Fighting Illini on Friday night at 6:35 p.m.
