Six Huskers Earn Academic All-Big Ten Accolades

The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team placed six student-athletes on the Academic All-Big Ten list, announced by the Big Ten on Wednesday. All six eligible athletes on the NU gymnastics squad earned academic all-conference honors. The Huskers’ six honorees also gave the women’s gymnastics program 174 total academic all-conference selections. The Big Ten conference recognized a total of 780 student athletes, over 40 more than last year’s list.

Hollie Blanske, Danielle Breen, Jennie Laeng, Ashley Lambert, Madison McConkey and Grace Williams were all named to the academic all-conference listing. In order to earn Academic All-Big Ten accolades, a student-athlete must be a letterwinner in at least their second year of competition and carry a cumulative 3.0 or higher GPA.

Nebraska’s seniors Hollie Blanske and Madison McConkey led the way for the Big Red, capturing their third straight academic all-conference honor. The seniors have previously earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2014 and 2015. Blanske is also a two-time NACGC/W Scholastic All-American in 2013 and 2014.

Laeng and Lambert each earned their second consecutive academic all-conference award. Laeng is a two-time NACGC/W Scholastic All-American in 2014 and 2015. Laeng was also a Big Ten Distinguished scholar in 2015.

Sophomores Breen and Williams were both awarded academic all-conference honors in their first season of eligibility for the award. Breen also grabbed NACGC/W Scholastic All-America accolades in 2015. Breen was one of twelve winter honorees that maintained 4.0 cumulative GPA.
