Session V: Montoya Takes Fifth, Wilson Finishes Seventh

New York, N.Y. – Eric Montoya (133) and Austin Wilson (165) each won their medal-round matches during Session V of the NCAA Championships at Madison Square Garden on Saturday.

Nebraska is in eighth place as a team with 58 points. Penn State clinched the team title with 114 points, while Oklahoma State (89.5) and Virginia Tech (82) round out the top three.

Montoya went 1-1 on Saturday to finish fifth in his third NCAA Championships appearance (second at Nebraska). After dropping a 9-3 decision to fourth-seeded Cody Brewer of Oklahoma in the consolation semifinals, Montoya battled No. 5 seed Jordan Conaway of Penn State for fifth place.

Trailing 4-2 entering the third period, Montoya rode out Conaway and added four near fall points to win by a 7-4 margin. Montoya, who earned his first career All-America honor on Friday, finishes the season with a 29-10 record after going 5-2 at the NCAA Championships.

Wilson won his lone match in Session V to capture seventh place at 165 pounds. Wilson defeated seventh-seeded Anthony Perrotti of Rutgers for the second time this tournament. In the seventh-place bout, Wilson notched a 4-2 decision over the Scarlet Knight.

Wilson, making his fourth NCAA Championships appearance, went 4-2 over three days to earn All-America status for the first time in his career. He finishes his career with 94 wins at Nebraska.

Session VI’s finals will be televised on ESPN starting at 7 p.m. CT (8 p.m. ET). The 184-pound final between No. 7 seed TJ Dudley and No. 1 Gabe Dean of Cornell will be the eighth match of the night.
