Goodyear, AZ. - The Nebraska men’s golf team is in 14th place after the first two rounds of the Desert Shootout. The Huskers fired a pair of 288s en route to an even par 576 heading into Saturday’s final round.
Leading NU on Friday was Sean Song. The freshman fired a 2-under par 142 that included a season-low 69 in the second round at the Palm Valley Golf Club’s par-72, 7,015-yard configuration. Song is tied for 28th place heading into Saturday’s final round.
Juniors Mike Colgate and Justin Jennings both posted even par on the first day. Colgate opened Friday with a 73 before a one-under 71 in the second round. Jennings carded a pair of 72s. Both are currently tied for 44th.
Jackson Wendling is tied for 61st after two rounds. Wendling fired a first round 70 before a 76. Wendling is two strokes ahead of Jace Guthmiller. Guthmiller, playing as an individual, fired a pair of 74s and is currently tied for 77th.
Senior Aaron Wong is in 115th place at 159 stokes heading into the final round. Wong carded 78 and 81.
Iowa State leads the team competition after posting 551 over two rounds. Saturday’s final round will begin 8:30 a.m. CT shotgun start. Live stats will be available on birdiefire.com.
