Huskers Fire Season Low in Arizona

Scottsdale, Ariz. - The Nebraska men’s golf team is in seventh place after the first two rounds of the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate. NU fired a season-low 290 in the first round before a 300 stroke second round.

Leading the Big Red surge at the Desert Mountain Club’s Outlaw Course was Mike Colgate. The junior is tied for 13th after carding 72 and 71 in the first two rounds, respectively.

Freshman Jackson Wendling is tied for 19th heading into Sunday’s final round. Wendling fired seven birdies en route to a personal best 69 in the first round before carding a 75 in the second round. Wendling finished the first day two strokes ahead of Justin Jennings. Jennings is tied for 29th after recording a pair of one-over par 73s in the first two rounds.

Freshman Sean Song is tied for 61st after carding 76 and 81. Song finished six strokes ahead of freshman Jace Guthmiller. Guthmiller opened the day with an 82 before a second round 81 en route to a tie for 67th place heading into Sunday.

The Huskers previous best was in their fall season opener at the Ballyneal Challenge in Colorado, where they fired an opening round 292.

Michigan leads the team competition after posting 562. Sunday’s final round will begin with a 9:30 a.m. CT shotgun start. Live stats will be available at golfstat.com.
