Romeo Earns Big Ten Weekly Honor

Nebraska sophomore Natalie Romeo claimed her third appearance of the season on the Big Ten Player-of-the-Week Honor Roll on Monday.

Romeo, who was also honored by the conference on Nov. 16 and Jan. 18, earned her third recognition of the year on the conference's weekly honor team by producing the second triple-double in school history with 12 points and career highs of 10 rebounds and 10 assists in Nebraska's win over Northwestern on Sunday at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

In her most significant action of the season at the point guard spot, Romeo won her head-to-head battle with Wildcat point guard Ashley Deary, holding the Northwestern junior to just six points and four assists. Nebraska avenged a 23-point loss earlier this season in Evanston.

Romeo, who added 17 points, three rebounds, three assists, three steals and a blocked shot against Indiana on Feb. 24, averaged 14.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 2.0 steals on the week.

She finished the regular season by averaging 15.6 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.4 steals for the Huskers. Romeo also has set the school record with 93 three-pointers to rank among national leaders in that category.

Romeo was Nebraska's Big Ten Player-of-the-Week nominee in eight of the Huskers' 16 weeks this season.

Maryland's Shatori Walker-Kimbrough took home the Big Ten's final conference player-of-the-week award of the season. Michigan State's Jasmine Hines and Purdue's Ashley Morrissette joined Romeo on the weekly honor roll. Purdue's Dominique McBryde captured the Big Ten's final freshman-of-the-week award of the season. Nebraska's Jessica Shepard claimed that honor a conference-record 10 times this season.

The Big Ten will announce its final regular-season awards later today as selected by both the coaches and media with a live announcement of the honors on BTN at 4:30 p.m. (CT).
