All 10 Husker starters earned spots in the third Coaches’ Panel Rankings and second RPI Rankings, released by the NCAA on Thursday.
In addition to the rankings, the NCAA released qualifier allocations for each conference, with the Big Ten boasting 71 spots, the most by any conference. The Big Ten will have nine wrestlers at both 133 and 174 pounds. Seven Big Ten wrestlers will make it to the NCAA Championships at 125, 141, 157, 184 and heavyweight. Six will make it at 149, 165 and 197.
Senior Jake Sueflohn, a three-time NCAA Championships qualifier, achieved the best ranking by a Husker in the Coaches’ Panel with the No. 3 spot at 149 pounds. He is ranked fourth in the RPI with a 24-4 record this season.
Four additional Huskers are ranked in the top 10 of the Coaches’ Panel Rankings. Eric Montoya (133), Austin Wilson (165), TJ Dudley (184) and Aaron Studebaker (197) are each ranked ninth. Dudley holds the best RPI Ranking by a Husker with the No. 3 position. Montoya is sixth, Wilson is 12th and Studebaker is 13th in the RPI Rankings.
In the Coaches’ Panel Rankings, Tim Lambert (No. 13 at 125), Anthony Abidin (No. 18 at 141), Tyler Berger (No. 18 at 157) and Micah Barnes (No. 18 at 174) round out the Huskers in the top 20, while Collin Jensen holds the No. 21 spot at heavyweight.
In the RPI, Berger (No. 7 at 157), Lambert (No. 8 at 125), Barnes (No. 9 at 174) are all in the top 10, while Abidin (No. 16 at 141) and Collin Jensen (No. 24 at heavyweight) also garnered spots.
The Huskers return to action at the Big Ten Championships, set for March 5-6, at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa. The NCAA Championships are scheduled for March 17-19 at Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y.
