The No. 8 Nebraska rifle team continues postseason competition as it travels to Oxford, Miss., for the 2016 Great America Rifle Conference Championships on Feb. 26-28. The team will face off against conference-opponents West Virginia, Kentucky, Memphis, Ole Miss, Navy, Army, Akron and NC State.
The Huskers will compete at various times throughout the weekend. The smallbore preliminary relays will begin on Friday at 9 a.m. and end Saturday at 3:00. The top eight individuals will advance to the smallbore finals on Saturday at 5:15 pm. Air rifle qualifiers will begin on Saturday at 9:40 a.m. and end on Sunday at 10:10 a.m. The top eight will compete in the finals on Sunday at noon. At the 2015 GARC Championships, Nebraska placed third, behind West Virginia and Kentucky. The Huskers last won the tournament title in 2006. West Virginia has claimed first place for the last six consecutive seasons.
NOTE: The 2016 NCAA Rifle Selection Show will air on NCAA.com on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 4 p.m. The top eight teams in the country will advance to the NCAA Championships in Akron, Ohio on March 11-12. The Huskers are looking to qualify for the NCAA Championships for the fourth consecutive seasons.
