NU Prepares For Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate

Palm Desert, Calif. - The Nebraska men’s golf team travels to Palm Desert, Calif., to compete in the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate at the Classic Club, Feb. 19-21.

The Huskers are participating in their first stroke play competition of the spring season at The Classic Club, a par-72, 7,322-yard layout. NU will face 19 schools from around the country during the three-day tournament. Joining the Big Red will be host Wyoming, Gonzaga, TCU, Cal Poly, CSU Northridge, UC Riverside, Little Rock, Old Dominion, South Dakota State, Oral Roberts, Southern Illinois, Idaho, Colorado, Kansas, Texas Tech, Denver, UC Irvine, UT Arlington, and Southern Utah. Friday’s first round will start with a 9:30 a.m. CT shotgun start.

Representing the No. 1 spot in the lineup for NU is junior Mike Colgate. Colgate finished first among Huskers in stroke play scoring in the fall season with a 73.92 stroke average and finished 2-1-1 in last week’s Big Ten Match Play Championship, tying last year's Big Ten Champion Carson Schaake of Iowa in the first round.

Fellow junior Justin Jennings will represent the No. 2 spot. Jennings finished with the best match play record among the Huskers last week, going 3-1-0.

Freshman Jackson Wendling is set to tee off for the Huskers in the third spot of NU’s lineup. Wendling was named Big Ten Player of the Week in September for his performance in the Ballyneal Challenge, where he finished fourth.

Sean Song will also travel to Palm Desert to represent NU in the No. 4 position. Song has participated in all six competitions in 2015-16 and holds a 76.00 stroke average over thirteen rounds.

Representing the No. 5 spot for the Huskers will be Jace Guthmiller. The freshman went 2-1-1 in last week’s Match Play Championship and holds a 75.75 stroke average over eight rounds.
