Houston - The second-ranked Nebraska bowling team went 5-1 with an average of 204.2, good for second overall after the first day of competition at the SFA Stormin’ Ladyjack Classic at Lanes Off Bellaire in Houston.
Eleventh-ranked North Carolina A&T finished just in front of the Huskers (63-24) with a 204.3 average to lead the overall standings. No. 6 Fairleigh Dickinson finished third with an average of 202.4, while top-ranked Arkansas State and hosts Stephen F. Austin rounded out the top five with averages of 199.7 and 198.4, respectively.
The Huskers began the day with a victory over Louisiana Tech by a score of 1,009-940 as NU improved its record to 4-0 against the Bulldogs this season. The Huskers then defeated Fairleigh Dickinson, 1,070-949, before winning a 1,027-1,000 decision over North Carolina A&T.
NU defeated Monmouth, 1,031-962, and fourth-ranked Sam Houston State, 1,067-903, before falling to Arkansas State by a score of 1,027-922 in the finale.
Seventeen teams are competing at the Stormin’ Ladyjack Classic, including 13 ranked teams and each of the top five teams in the nation.
The Huskers will return to action Saturday for six traditional matches with play set to begin at 9:25 a.m. Friday and Saturday’s combined results will determine the seeding for Sunday’s bracket-play tournament to determine a champion. Sunday’s action is set to begin at 8:30 a.m.
