The Nebraska men's tennis team will hit the road for the first time in 2016 this weekend, when the Huskers travel to Wichita, Kan., for a pair of duals. Nebraska will face No. 67 Wichita State on Friday at 6 p.m. before taking on New Mexico Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Huskers bring a winning record into play this weekend after posting a 3-2 record during their season-opening five-match homestand. Nebraska is 3-0 against unranked opponents in 2016, but the Huskers are still looking for their first win over a ranked opponent.
Nebraska faced a pair of ranked opponents in the final week of January, and the Huskers hope that experience will benefit them on Friday when Nebraska takes on No. 67 Wichita State. Against 52nd-ranked Denver on Jan. 29, Nebraska lost 5-2, but two of the Huskers' singles losses were three-set defeats that could have turned the match in NU's favor. The next day, Nebraska took on a tough Oregon squad that has improved its national ranking every week this season. The Ducks were ranked 46th when they faced Nebraska, and Tomislav Antoljak gave the Huskers their lone point with a win at No. 6 singles.
NU has been led early in the season by its top five singles players, all of whom have winning records. Marc Hermann is 4-1 at the No. 2 spot, Toby Boyer is 4-1 at the No. 3 spot and Antoljak is 4-1 this season while competing at both No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Dusty Boyer owns a 3-2 record playing out of the No. 1 spot, while Andrew Dzulynsky is 3-2 at No. 4 singles. The Huskers have also won the doubles point in three of their five matches this season.
