Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska track and field team added 12 event titles on the final day of the Holiday Inn Invitational to cap the season-opening meet with 17 titles on Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Indoor Track before 1,837 fans.
In the women's 60-meter dash, Tierra Williams was the top collegiate finisher with a time of 7.67 behind three professionals from Axis Athletics (Schillonie Calvert, Charonda Williams and Alexandria Anderson). Later, she added her second title of the day and third title of the weekend in the women's triple jump, leaping a personal-best 41-3 1/4 (12.58m). Williams, a junior from Auburn, Neb., was also the women's long jump champion on Friday night.
Antoine Lloyd took the 60-meter hurdles title with his second PR in as many days, running a 7.90 to edge Air Force's Jamiel Trimble.
Drew Wiseman ran away with the title in the men's 400-meter dash, posting a time of 47.98 to beat Olympian Tabarie Henry (48.02). Jake Nelson was just behind at 48.77.
Andy Neal followed up with the men's 600-meter title by edging teammate Levi Gipson with a time of 1:18.33. It was Neal's first time running the event in his career.
Freshman Lakayla Harris won the 200 meters in her first collegiate meet, posting a time of 24.32.
The men's distance medley relay team of Jordan De Spong, Mark Jarecki, Ty Moss and Matt Gilbert posted a time of 9:59.44 to win the race. And the 4x400 team of Neal, Sam Bransby, Wiseman and Nelson capped the evening with a winning time of 3:13.11.
In field events, Tristen Sharp won the women's shot put for her second title of the meet by throwing 49-0 1/4 (14.94m). She was the weight throw champion on Friday night. Toni Tupper was third in the shot put with a mark of 47-1 3/4 (14.37m) in her first time competing for the Huskers.
Kaiwan Culmer captured the men's triple jump title by posting a leap of 50-5 1/2 (15.38m). Davon Clark was the runner-up with a personal-best jump of 49-8 1/2 (15.15m). He also set a personal best in the 60 meters of 6.86 to finish third among collegiate athletes.
Reka Czuth posted the top high jump by a college athlete at 5-8 1/2 (1.74m). Former Husker Marusa Cernjul had the top jump overall - 6-1 1/4 (1.86m) - to move to No. 7 in the world. Freshman Tierney Lindner, competing unattached, was third overall (5-7, 1.70m).
Tess Merrill won the women's pole vault, beating teammate Paula Andrie in a tiebreaker after both cleared 12-10 1/4 (3.92m).
Craig Driver finished second in the pole vault by clearing 16-11 (5.16m). Beau Simmons was third at 16-5 1/4 (5.01m). Landon Bartel was second in the high jump after making it over 6-11 1/2 (2.12m).
The Huskers will compete in the Nebraska Wesleyan Invitational next Friday and Mark Colligan Memorial next Saturday, both at the Devaney Center.
