Shepard Captures Sixth Big Ten Honor

Lincoln - Nebraska's Jessica Shepard claimed her sixth Big Ten Freshman-of-the-Week award in the first nine weeks of the season on Monday.

The 6-4 forward from Fremont, Neb., produced one of the top scoring and rebounding performances in school history with 29 points and a career-high 19 rebounds in Nebraska's 73-57 win over Illinois on Sunday. Shepard's 19 rebounds were the second-most in school history by a freshman and matched Nebraska's highest rebound total by any player since 1999.

Shepard came up just one point and one rebound short of the first 30-point, 20-rebound performance in Nebraska history. She added three assists while hitting 11-of-18 shots from the field in 30 minutes of action.

For the season, Shepard leads Nebraska with 19.3 points and 9.1 rebounds per game, which are on pace for the top scoring and rebounding averages by a freshman in school history. Through four Big Ten games, Shepard is averaging 18.8 points and 12.3 rebounds per game.

Shepard and the Huskers continue Big Ten road action on Wednesday by traveling to Penn State. Tip-off with the Lady Lions at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, Pa., is set for 6 p.m.

Nebraska returns home to face Rutgers on Saturday at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Tip-off between the Big Red and Scarlet Knights is set for 5:30 p.m., and tickets are available now at Huskers.com.
