Husker Men Earn No. 11 Preseason Ranking

The Nebraska men's track and field team will begin the 2016 indoor season ranked No. 11 in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Top 25 poll.

The Husker men totaled 69.17 points based on the top returners from last season. Leading the way is Oladapo Akinmoladun, the two-time defending Big Ten 60m hurdles indoor champion and school-record holder in the event. Steven Cahoy (pole vault) and Landon Bartel (high jump) are also among the top returners after both captured runner-up honors at both Big Ten meets last year. The men's 4x400-relay team was the top Husker performance last season with a second-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

The Husker men captured the 2015 Big Ten Indoor title and have 87 of their title-winning 127 points back set to compete this indoor season.

Florida holds the top spot in the preseason men's rankings. Three Big Ten teams earned top-25 spots with Penn State at No. 21 and Purdue at No. 24.

On the women's side, Arkansas earned the No. 1 spot with Georgia and Texas following. The Husker women are outside the top 25 and 68 percent of their roster are freshmen and sophomores.

The Huskers are set to open the 2016 season with the Holiday Inn Invitational at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Indoor Track on Jan. 15-16. The meet begins on Friday, Jan. 15 at 4 p.m. and on Saturday, Jan. 16 at Noon.
