Houston – The fourth-ranked Nebraska bowling team went 4-1 in five traditional matches with a 201.3 pinfall, defeating a pair of ranked teams on the second day of the Track Kat Klash Saturday at Emerald Lanes in Houston, Texas. The Cornhuskers (38-15) are seeded second for Sunday’s bracket-play tournament that determinesthe weekend’s champion.
Sam Houston State leads the overall standings, finishing Saturday with a 5-0 record and a 204.2 average. The hosts are tied with Nebraska at fourth in the latest NTCA rankings. No. 9 Central Missouri finished with an undefeated 5-0 record, but finished behind the Huskers with a 197.7 average.
Julia Bond finished third in the individual standings with a 214.2 average while Gazmine Mason compiled a 208.6 average to place fifth. Melanie Crawford joined them in the top ten, finishing ninth with a 204 average.
The Huskers began the day with a 988-865 win over No. 24 Adelphi and followed with a 1,037-991 victory over Louisiana Tech. Nebraska then routed Grambling, 968-633, to win its third consecutive match.
NU fell to No. 8 Stephen F. Austin in the penultimate match of the day by a score of 1,041-940, but ended with a victory over No. 14 LIU-Brooklyn, 1,100-950. The win was the Huskers’ second over the Blackbirds in as many days.
Sunday’s action is set to begin at 8:15 a.m. with the Huskers taking on top-seeded Sam Houston State. The winner will take on either Central Missouri or Stephen F. Austin in the semifinals. Teams will play three best-of-seven Baker format matches to determine a champion.
