Lincoln, Neb. – Four former Husker soccer players were among the 34 student-athletes to earn their bachelor’s degree on Saturday morning during UNL’s winter commencement ceremony at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
Ari Romero, who played at Nebraska from 2010 to 2013, earned a degree in business administration. The Mexico National Team member played a key role for NU’s defense during the Huskers’ run to Big Ten regular-season and tournament titles in 2013.
Following that season, Romero collected second-team NSCAA All-America honors in addition to earning Big Ten Defender of the Year and NSCAA All-Region first-team honors. Romero, a Surprise, Ariz. native, started all 77 games she appeared in during her career at Nebraska.
Ex-Huskers Samantha Areman, Jourden Casey and Mayme Conroy also received diplomas on Saturday. Areman, a three-time Academic All-Big Ten Team member from Firth, Neb., graduated with a degree in marketing. Jourden Casey, a three-time Academic All-Big Ten Team member from Omaha, Neb., earned a degree in advertising and public relations. Mayme Conroy, a two-time second-team All-Big Ten member and two-time Academic All-Big Ten Team member, graduated with a degree in child, youth and family studies.
