Huskers Head to Kansas Rim Rock Classic

Lawrence, Kan. – The Nebraska cross country team continues its 2015 season at the Kansas Rim Rock Classic on Saturday morning. The men will kick things off at the Jayhawks' home course, Rim Rock Farm, with the 8K race at 9 a.m., while the starting gun for the women's 6K is set to go off at 10 a.m.

The Huskers have not raced in Lawrence, Kan., since 2012. Both the men and women finished seventh at the Rim Rock Classic that year. This will be the Huskers' third meet of the season.

The Husker men are looking to carry the momentum they gained from their first-place overall team finish at the Woody Greeno Invitational at Pioneers Park two weeks ago and are hopeful to find similar success this weekend in Lawrence. Redshirt freshman Wyatt McGuire led the pack at the Woody Greeno Invitational with Jacob Olson, Peter Spinks and Austin Post following right behind.

The men’s team has been on a hot streak since the start of the season and has placed first in both events so far. Spinks and McGuire have each won Big Ten Athlete of the Week, giving the Huskers a conference honor after each meet they've raced in this season.

The Husker women are looking to continue building after a third-place finish at the Woody Greeno and are looking to capitalize behind the success of sophomore Bonnie Smith, who has stepped up as a leader since junior Anna Peer’s season-ending injury.

Smith led the team with a fifth-place finish overall at the Woody Greeno and will look to lead the Huskers again on Saturday. Haley Harsin has been the Huskers' No. 2 finisher at both meets, while Megan Lush has been in the Huskers' top four both times. The NU women won the Augustana Twilight title to begin the season.
