Huskers Turn Attention to Northwestern

Lincoln - Coach Mike Riley and the Huskers welcomed the media to Memorial Stadium on Monday to talk about the Nebraska football team's upcoming Big Ten home showdown with Northwestern.

Kickoff between the Huskers (3-4, 1-2 Big Ten) and the Wildcats (5-2, 1-2 Big Ten) is set for Saturday at 11 a.m., with national television coverage provided by ESPN2.

Nebraska is coming off an impressive 48-25 road win at Minnesota on Saturday, while Northwestern suffered its second straight lopsided loss. The then-No. 20 Wildcats dropped a 40-10 decision at home to No. 17 Iowa on Saturday, which followed on the heels of a 38-0 road loss at then-No. 18 Michigan on Oct. 10. One week earlier, Northwestern pounded Minnesota 27-0 to improve to 5-0 and climb to No. 13 in the national rankings.

Northwestern opened the season with a 16-6 home win over then-No. 21 Stanford and defeated a solid Duke squad 19-10 in Durham, N.C., two weeks later. Both Stanford and Duke have since won five consecutive games to improve to 5-1 on the year, as the Cardinal have climbed to No. 10 in this week's Associated Press Poll, while the Blue Devils have risen to No. 23.

In Wildcat wins over Stanford, Duke and Minnesota, Northwestern averaged 304.3 yards per game of total offense while grinding out 203.3 rushing yards per contest.

In Northwestern losses to Michigan and Iowa the last two weeks, the Wildcats have been held to an average of just 179 total yards, including just 49.5 rushing yards per game.

In Nebraska's three Big Ten contests, the Blackshirts have surrendered just 114.3 rushing yards per game, including just 65 in Saturday's win over a ground-based Gopher attack.
