West Lafayette, Ind. - The Nebraska soccer team (5-4-2, 1-2-2 Big Ten) fell in the final six minutes to Purdue (7-5-0, 2-3-0 Big Ten), 2-1, at Boilermaker Soccer Complex on Friday night.
In the first half, Nebraska outshot Purdue, 7-4, but trailed 1-0 at the intermission. Purdue’s Erika Arkans connected in the 25th minute to give the Boilermakers the lead.
In the 66th minute, Nebraska struck back with a goal from Jaylyn Odermann, assisted by Sami Reinhard. It was Odermann’s fourth goal of the season. With less than six minutes left in the game, Purdue’s Hannah Leniert broke the tie with her sixth goal of the season, which ended up deciding the final result.
NU outshot the Boilermakers in the second half, 10-5, but the Huskers couldn't convert.
Goalkeeper Erika Johnson finished with three saves. Caroline Flynn had five shots, four of which were on goal. Katie Kraeutner and Lia Baldo each had three shots, Kristi King had two shots, while Alli Peterson, Odermann, Haley Hanson, and Sami Reinhard each had one.
The Huskers are back in action on Oct. 8 when they welcome Minnesota to Barbara Hibner Stadium at 7:05 pm.
