Taylor Edwards Named to All-NPF Team

Former Husker Taylor Edwards was honored for an outstanding professional season on Thursday night when she was named to the 2015 All-National ProFastpitch team. Edwards was named the catcher on the 18-player All-NPF team, which included one honoree at all eight defensive positions, plus four pitchers and six at-large selections.

In her second professional season and first with the Chicago Bandits, Edwards nearly took home another of the league’s top honors at the annual NPF Awards Banquet in Hoover, Ala. Edwards hit nine home runs for the Bandits, just missing out on the league’s Home Run Award, which went to Akron’s Taylor Schlopy (10 homers). Edwards ranked second in the NPF in home runs and RBIs (29) in 2015. She finished the year with a .242 batting average and led the Bandits in doubles (6), homers and RBIs.

Taylor was joined by her twin sister Tatum on the Bandits’ 2015 roster. Tatum drew one walk in four plate appearances offensively for Chicago this season, while posting a 3-3 record in the circle for the Bandits.

Together, the Edwards twins helped Chicago finish in second place in the NPF regular-season standings with a 31-17 record. The Bandits earned the No. 2 seed for the 2015 NPF Championship Series. Chicago will face the Akron Racers in a best-of-three semifinal matchup Aug. 14 and 15, with a best-of-three championship series set for Aug. 16-18. All games of the 2015 NPF Championship Series are being played at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in Hoover, Ala., and fans can watch every pitch of the championship series on the CBS Sports Network.
