Page Headed to 2016 Olympics

Budapest, Hungary - Former Husker Danielle Page scored 12 points and pulled down a game-high eight rebounds while adding two assists to power Serbia to a 76-68 upset of top-seeded France in front of more than 5,000 fans at the Eurobasket Women's Championship at the Budapest Sports and Events Arena on Sunday.

The victory earned Serbia an automatic bid into the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The 2016 Olympic Summer Games are set for Aug. 5-21.

Page, a 6-2 forward from Monument, Colo., has been one of the top professional players in France since graduating from Nebraska in 2008. She is in her first year as a member of the Serbian National Team. Page completed the required paperwork to gain Serbian citizenship following the end of her seventh professional season in Europe this spring. Page's professional career began with one season as a member of the WNBA's Connecticut Sun in 2008.

Page is set to become just the second Nebraska women's basketball player in history to claim a spot on an Olympic Team. Page's former teammate Chelsea Aubry was a captain for the 2012 Canadian Olympic Team. Page and Aubry joined forces to help Coach Connie Yori's Huskers earn their first NCAA Tournament bid in 2007.

On Sunday, Page was one of three Serbs to produce double figures against France. Ana Dabovic led Serbia with a game-high 25 points, while Sonja Petrovic added 22 points.

Serbia advanced to Sunday's final with a 74-72 win over Belarus on Friday. Page started and scored four points while adding eight big rebounds. The Serbs moved into the semifinals with an impressive 75-63 victory over Turkey on Wednesday. Page, who has been a regular starter for the Serbs, needed just five points and two rebounds in 17 minutes in that victory.

In her debut with the Serbian National Team on June 11, Page pumped in 10 points and grabbed four rebounds in a 76-60 run past Latvia at Savaria Arena in Szombathely, Hungary. Two days later, she added 13 points and seven rebounds in just 16 minutes as a starter in an 89-72 pounding of Croatia.

Page erupted for her best performance the following day (June 14) with 26 points and 12 rebounds in a 76-54 win over Great Britain in Szombathely. The Serbs suffered their first loss with a 77-53 setback to Russia on June 15 at Savaria Arena, but Page still produced nine points and nine rebounds.

Serbia rebounded with a 76-74 win over the Slovak Republic in Gyor, Hungary on June 18, as Page managed six points and eight boards. Page settled for just four points and three rebounds in a 91-80 loss to Spain on June 20 in Gyor. Serbia then suffered a 73-72 setback to Lithuania in Gyor on June 22. Despite the loss to Lithuania, Serbia advanced to the quarterfinals of the three-week tournament to face Turkey in Budapest, Hungary on June 24.

Page was a four-year contributor at Nebraska from 2004-05 through 2007-08. She helped the Huskers to four consecutive postseason tournament appearances, including a trip to the second-round of the NCAA Tournament in her only season as a starter in 2007-08.

As a senior, Page started all 33 games and averaged career highs of 12.0 points and 6.5 rebounds while blocking 78 shots. Her performance as a senior came despite suffering an ACL tear after her junior year. Page not only recovered, but her game flourished and she was a driving force in one of the best seasons in school history in 2007-08.

Page finished her four-year Husker career with 946 points, 636 rebounds and 207 blocked shots in 129 career games.
