Petteway Prepares to Begin Professional Career

Lincoln – For the last six weeks, Terran Petteway has been like many other recent college graduates, working hard to improve his position in the job market. For Petteway, that has included traveling from coast to coast in hopes of hearing his name called during Thursday’s NBA Draft.

The 6-foot-6 guard started his journey at the NBA Combine in Chicago in mid-May and has spent most of the past month on the road.

Petteway said Sunday that he has worked out for 10 teams over the last month, including second workouts with both the Detroit Pistons and Los Angeles Lakers. He said each of the workouts were similar with drill work, along with playing against other draft prospects, in front of coaches and front office staff.

Petteway said his competitive nature has impressed teams during the workouts.

“They like how I compete and the motor I have on the court,” Petteway said. “They have also been impressed with my ability to score and in the pick-and-roll game.”

Petteway was a prolific scorer during his Husker career, totaling 1,143 points at NU to rank 20th on the Huskers’ all-time scoring chart.  As a junior, he topped the Huskers and ranked fourth in the Big Ten in scoring at 18.2 points per game, while also placing among the Big Ten leaders in 3-pointers (2.2, eighth), assists (2.8, 14th) and steals (1.1, 15th) per game.  As a sophomore, Petteway led the Huskers to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1998, averaging a Big Ten-leading 18.1 points per game along with 4.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists per contest to earn first-team All-Big Ten honors.

With the draft just days away, Petteway will spend the week in Galveston, Texas, with his family and will be joined by some of his former teammates, who are traveling down to Texas to be with Terran and his family.

“This is the hardest part,” Petteway said about waiting for the NBA Draft, which is Thursday night from the Barclays Center, beginning at 6 p.m.
