The Nebraska men’s gymnastics team’s Ethan Lottman captured 2015 Capital One Academic All-America honors, announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Lottman was named to second-team list and becomes the 13th academic All-American in program history. The feat also marks the team’s second consecutive academic All-America award after former Husker Eric Schryver earned the honors in 2014. The last time the program notched this feat was when Stephen Tétrault captured back-to-back honors in 2007 and 2008.
Lottman erupted to a breakout season as a junior in 2015, adding a number of honors and awards to his list. At the 2015 NCAA Championships he took home the Elite 89 Award, which honors the student-athlete in each of the 89 NCAA sports at the championship level for the highest GPA. The Omaha, Neb., native also tabbed All-America accolades at the championships after finishing fifth on pommel horse in the event finals competition. Lottman is an art major and holds a cumulative grade-point average of 3.95.
In all, 90 student-athletes were named to the CoSIDA academic All-American team at the Division I level and stretch across the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis and water polo for both men and women, as well as bowling, crew and field hockey for women, and volleyball and wrestling for men.
