Lottman Takes Home Elite 89 Award

Norman, Okla.—The Nebraska men’s gymnastics team was recognized at the 2015 NCAA Championships awards banquet Wednesday night, where junior Ethan Lottman earned the prestigious Elite 89 award for excellence in sport and academics.

Founded by the NCAA, the Elite 89 gives recognition to those who embody the true essence of a well-rounded student athlete.  He or she must have reached the national championship level of his or her sport, while also receiving the highest academic achievement among his or her peers. According to the NCAA site, the Elite 89 award is presented across all divisions and is given to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average while participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA’s 89 championships. Eligible student athletes must be in at least his or her sophomore year and must be an active member of the team while participating in the championships.

This is the first Elite 89 award for Lottman as well as the first for the Nebraska men’s gymnastics program. Lottman is majoring in art with a minor in Spanish and holds a 3.948 grade-point average.
