Waco, Texas - The Nebraska track and field team totaled five event titles at the Michael Johnson Classic at Baylor's Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium on Saturday.
The meet - which featured Baylor, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and TCU among others - was canceled at 8 p.m. (CT) due to inclement weather, leaving a handful of events unfinished.
Will Lohman swept the hammer throw and shot put titles again, throwing 210-3 (64.09m) in the hammer throw and 61-4 3/4 (18.71m) in the shot put. Sarah Firestone won the javelin throw for the third straight meet, tossing 169-6 (51.66m).
Two Husker field event winners had to edge teammates for their titles. Steven Cahoy won the pole vault via a tiebreaker against Beau Simmons. Both cleared 17-2 3/4 (5.25m), which was a personal best for Simmons. Marusa Cernjul jumped 5-9 3/4 (1.77m) in the high jump to win the event, while Reka Czuth finished second at 5-7 3/4 (1.72m).
Among other top Husker finishers, Mollie Gribbin was runner-up in the triple jump, leaping 41-8 1/2 (12.71m). She led four top-10 Husker finishers in the women's triple jump, including Ellie Ewere at fourth (41-4 1/4, 12.60m). Nick Percy was second in the hammer throw (203-8, 62.07m) and fourth in the discus (175-11, 53.63m).
Shawnice Williams finished second in the 800-meter run in 2:06.43. Mate Koroknai also earned runner-up honors in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 50.80. Jazmin McCoy (19-9, 6.02m) and Czuth (19-6 3/4, 5.96m) finished second and third, respectively, in the long jump.
Sean Pille ran 13.94 in the 110-meter hurdles to place third. James White took third in the high jump (7-0 1/2, 2.15m). Paula Andrie placed third in the pole vault, clearing 13-5 1/4 (4.10m). Carlie Pinkelman was third in the shot put at 51-4 1/4 (15.65m), while Asia Cole was fourth (48-6, 14.78m).
Tristen Sharp finished fourth in the hammer throw at 188-6 (57.46m). Jerry Westerfield finished fourth in the long jump at 23-6 1/4 (7.17m), while Corey Winston was fourth in the triple jump (48-6, 14.78m). Jake Bender ran 46.86 in the 400 meters to finish fourth in the event. Nolan Border's PR of 3:50.87 in the 1,500 meters won his section and earned him fifth overall in the event.
The women's discus, men's 200 meters, women's 5,000 meters and the 4x400 relays did not finish because of the severe weather. Alex Meyer was in second place in the discus (155-2, 47.29m) and Cole was in fourth (149-4, 45.52m) after two throws.
