Huskers Fall in Minnesota

Minneapolis, Minn. – The 59th-ranked Minnesota women’s tennis team (15-6, 5-2 Big Ten) overcame the Huskers (12-8, 0-7 Big Ten) on their home court this afternoon at Baseline Tennis Center. The Gophers grabbed the early doubles point before earning victories at four singles spots to tally the 5-2 win over NU.

Izabella Zgierska and Mary Hanna teamed up at the No. 1 spot, but did not finish the match after the Gophers grabbed doubles victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 spot the clinch the point.

The Big Red earned two singles wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spot.

Zgierska battled through a long three-set match at the No. 2 spot with Minnesota’s Caroline Ryba. Zgierska lost the first set, 6-1, but bounced right back with a 7-6 (2) second-set victory. Zgierska claimed the match with a 10-8 third-set win.

At the No. 3 spot, Hanna soared to a two-set victory over Jessika Mozia, nabbing the 6-1, 6-2 victory. Hanna improved an 8-9 mark on the season, while going 3-3 in Big Ten action.

The Huskers will return home to face Penn State on Friday, April 10th at 4:30 p.m. at the Vine Street Courts, followed by a dual with Ohio State on Sunday, April 12th at noon in which the Huskers will honor senior Izabella Zgierska in the final home match of the season.
