Madison, Wis. – The Nebraska women’s tennis team (12-7, 0-6 Big Ten) fell to Wisconsin (9-7, 3-3 Big Ten) today at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium. The Badgers grabbed its third straight conference win today as they defeated the Huskers, 6-1.
The Big Red came out strong as they swept the Badgers in doubles competition.
Izabella Zgierska and Mary Hanna improved to an impressive 13-3 mark on the season at the No. 1 spot with their 8-4 victory over Lauren Chypyha and Maria Avgerinos.
Maggy Lehmicke and Lisa Andersson continue their hot streak, winning their eighth-consecutive match today with an 8-6 victory over Sydney Rider and Ekaterina Stepanova at the No. 2 spot. The Husker duo remains undefeated in Big Ten action.
Katerina Matysova and Mackenna Maddox teamed up at the No. 3 spot against Wisconsin’s Lauren Burich and Kelsey Grambeau but didn’t finish the match after NU clenched the point.
With the Huskers up 1-0, the Badgers didn’t let up, leading them to sweep the Huskers in singles competition, winning five of the matches in two sets.
At the No. 4 spot, Matysova battled through three sets with Wisconsin’s Lauren Burich, earning the first-set win, 6-3. Burich bounced back, grabbing the second set, 6-2 followed by a ten-point super set to settle the dual. Burich came out victorious as she tallied a 12-10 win over Matysova to end the day, earning Wisconsin the 6-1 win over Nebraska.
The Huskers will continue action this Sunday, April 5th as they head to Minneapolis to take on fellow Big Ten opponent and 59th-ranked, Minnesota. Doubles action will begin at 11 a.m. followed by singles. Results will be posted here on Huskers.com following the match.
