Lincoln, Neb. - The 53rd-ranked Nebraska women's tennis team progressed to 11-1 on the season as they overpowered Georgia State today at the Lincoln Racquet Club gathering a 5-2 victory. The Huskers remain steady in doubles, clenching the early point for the ninth time this season, en route to earning four singles matches.
The Huskers gained a quick advantage over Georgia State with wins at the No. 1 and 3 doubles spots to clench the point. Katerina Matysova and Mackenna Maddox soared past Veronika Golanova and Niri Rasolomalala with a quick 8-3 win at the No. 3 spot.
Izabella Zgierska and Mary Hanna kept their win-streak alive as they defeated Linn Timmermann and Tarani Kamoe, 8-6, at the No. 1 spot, earning the duo an unbeaten 9-0 record on the season. Maggy Lehmicke and Lisa Andersson teamed up at the No. 2 spot but did not finish after NU earned the doubles point.
Shivalingaiah paced the Huskers to victory as she grabbed the first singles point with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Chaimaa Roudami at the No. 4 spot, pushing the redshirt freshman to a notable 11-1 mark on the season. NU grabbed another point as Lehmicke battled Rasolomalala to a 7-6 (6), 6-2 victory at the No. 1 spot.
The Huskers suffered losses at the No. 2 and 3 spots but bounced back quickly to grab the win as Matysova scorched Georgia State’s Kamoe, 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 6 spot, giving the Huskers the 4-2 lead. Lisa Andersson rounded out the day at the No. 5 spot as she defeat Golanova, 7-6 (2), 6-2.
The Huskers will open Big Ten play this Sunday, March 8 at 10 a.m. at the Nebraska Tennis Center against No. 29 Purdue (5-2, 1-0 Big Ten). Results will be posted here on Huskers.com following the match as well as live stats by clicking here.
