Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska women's tennis team (10-1) suffered their first loss of the season to No. 29 Wichita State Shockers (12-2) Sunday, March 1 at the Nebraska Tennis Center as the Shockers came away with the 4-0 victory.
The Shockers grabbed the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and 3 spots. Izabella Zgierska and Mary Hanna teamed up at the No. 1 spot to earn a 7-6 lead over Wichita State before retiring the match after the Shockers clenched the doubles point.
The Husker's came up short at the No. 3, 4 and 6 spots before ending the match in a Shocker victory. Hanna was defeated with a pair of 6-1 sets by Gabriela Porubin while Spurti Shivalingaiah lost her first match of the season to Wichita State's Abby Stevens, 6-4, 6-4. Katerina Matysova contended with Aleksandra Trifunovic at the No. 6 spot, but couldn't grab the victory, falling 7-6 (4), 6-2.
Zgierska gained an early 5-2 lead on Shocker's Rebecca Pedrazzi at the No. 2 spot before the match was ended.
The Huskers are set to face Georgia State this Friday, March 6 at 4 p.m. at the Lincoln Racquet Club. Results will be posted here on Huskers.com.
